The Associate of Applied Science in Allied Health prepares students for allied health careers. The three following degree options consist of a block of general education requirements and selected allied health professional curriculum credits. The Sleep Technology option is offered through a partnership with Baptist Health College Little Rock. The Radiography option is offered through a partnership with CHI St. Vincent Infirmary School of Radiologic Technology. Students will be admitted into the professional core through specific requirements of the admission/selection criteria of the affiliated school.
As part of the School of Math, Science, and Allied Health’s admissions and acceptance process, applicants are required to successfully pass a drug screen prior to entry into the following AHHS programs: Occupational Therapy Assistant, Radiography, Respiratory Therapy, and Licensed Practical Nursing.
In addition, students enrolled in these programs and the Dental Assisting program will be subject to random drug tests during the academic year. Persons testing positive or who refuse testing will be denied entry into the program or dismissed from the program if currently enrolled.
Option: Radiography
Students enrolled in this program of study obtain 19 credit hours of general education courses listed below. If selected for the professional program at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary School of Radiologic Technology, students then complete the 60 credit hours of RADG courses. Enrollment in Radiography courses is limited. Students are selected through a formal acceptance process. Students must be 18 years old, with a high school diploma or GED, and have completed all required prerequisite courses in order to start the Radiography program. This program is offered as part of a consortium agreement with CHI St. Vincent Health System School of Radiologic Technology. This program of study includes required summer courses and special program fees beyond current tuition and college fees.

In addition to satisfying the Institutional Learning Outcomes, program graduates are expected to successfully address the following goals/learning outcomes:
Goal #1: The program will produce graduates that are clinically competent and able to adapt to unique clinical situations in all entry level clinical procedures.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- The student will be able to properly position all required competencies.
- The student will be able to formulate correct exposure techniques.
- The student will be able to accurately evaluate radiographic images compensatory to the clinical competency level.
Goal #2: The program will produce graduates that demonstrate critical thinking addressing cognitive complex issues using processes of problem and resources identification, prioritizing alternative and recognizing conditionality, subsequently choosing a response.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Using cognitive reasoning skills, 1st year students will be able to identify problems, relevant information, and explore interpretations to
modify procedures in order to produce diagnostic images.
- Using transition and mastery cognitive reasoning skills, second year students will be able to develop alternatives, integrate, monitor, refine strategies, and communicate conclusions, in order to produce diagnostic images when standard imaging methods are not possible.
- The students, first and second year, will demonstrate critical thinking skill patterns that identify problems, organize information, prioritize factors, resulting in an option that provides reasonable concrete and theoretical modifications and outcomes.
Goal #3: Produce graduates that demonstrate a desire to seek further professional growth, display a professional image and attitude.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be encouraged to be an active members of the State Society of Radiologic Technologist and/or the ASRT
- Students will participate in a state or national professional organization activities.
- Students will display affective skills of sensitivity, caring, pride in schoolwork & profession, ethical practice, emotional maturity which constitutes a positive and professional attitude
Goal #4: The program will educate students to be effective communicators.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- The student/graduate can communicate to obtain an accurate
patient history and effectively communicate with the patient before, during, and after the exam.
- The student/graduate can communicate with peers and other
healthcare professionals in a group or as a team member.
Goal #5: Provide the community and CHI St. Vincent Health System with qualified radiographers -Program Effectiveness
- Employers will indicate that they are satisfied that the graduates they hire are qualified for the entry level position.
- Graduates will show satisfaction with the quality and quantity of their clinical education and indicate that they were prepared to meet the needs of the community.
- Graduates will pass the ARRT certification examination test on the first try.
- Program completion- rate completed within 3 years (150%)
- Job Placement-based on one year post graduation
Program standards for Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for admission to the certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Upon passing the registry examination, the graduate is certified as a Registered Technologist, Radiographer R.T., (R) ARRT and is eligible to apply for active membership in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
A degree in Radiologic Technology may also lead to occupations in Magnetic Resonance Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Sonography, and Radiation Therapy.
Beginning salary for Radiologic Technologists is $58,120 year.
