Any building process, whether technical, mechanical or structural, requires drawings with precise measurements and specifications. The Associate of Applied Science and technical certificate include instruction in basic and computer-aided drafting (CAD). The student begins with Introduction to Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Drawings and Specifications, and Basic Building Information Modeling (BIM). Related courses such as Architectural (CAD) Drafting; Building Information Modeling (BIM) Management; HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing (CAD) Drafting; and Advanced (CAD) Drafting prepare the student for a successful career as a drafting technician. This includes a review of Autodesk Revit Certification Examination.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Using a computer and AutoCAD software, create a variety of drawings applying the basic software functions of constructions, dimensioning, layering, and editing, including drawing manipulation functions.
- Identify and describe the basic concepts and processes involved in surveying, surveying equipment and their proper usage, and surveying field methods along with their related mathematical calculations.
- Given construction documents, prepare a bid for a unit using common technology tools, industry-standard software applications, architectural scale ruler, basic methods of estimating, and the systems commonly used to complete quantity surveys, building plans, and specifications.
- Compile a professional portfolio consisting of the following: architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and civil portion of a commercial set of plans that includes heating, ventilating and air conditioning, electrical lighting and power, plumbing, and related schedules and details.
- Interpret and explain basic construction drawings and specifications as indicated within blueprints and construction plans using a computer and Revit BIM software, design and create commercial plans that include the following: Floor Plan, Foundation Plan, Sections, Elevations, Details, HVAC, Plumbing, and Reflected Ceiling Plan.
- Using a computer and AutoCAD software application, design and develop structural plans for commercial and industrial buildings with details for construction, and fabrication.
