Program Overview

The Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Sciences is designed for those students who wish to obtain a two-year degree while prsuing or after completing the Technical Certificate in EMS - Paramedic. Students are accepted into the paramedic program for fall entry. Approximately 40% of the paramedic program course work is delivered online. Paramedic classes are held on Monday or Wednesdays and will have an occasional Friday for generally two Monday’s each month. Students may schedule their clinical time within program guidelines including weekdays, weekends and nights.

The Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas public colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and equitable treatment in the application of credits for admissions and degree requirements. Degree Requirements

-This degree requires successful completion of 60 credit hours.

-A minimum 2.00 cumulative grade-point average is required for graduation.

-Satisfaction of all financial obligations due to the college is required for graduation.

-Current Arkansas Licensure as an EMT is a prerequisite to enter this program.

-Please note: additional prerequisite courses may be required if minimum placement test scores are not met. 

Career Opportunities

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics states that employment of paramedics is projected to grow 15 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Emergencies such as car crashes, natural disasters, and acts of violence, will continue to require the skills of paramedics.
