Allied Health - Radiography, AAS****

The Associate of Applied Science in Allied Health prepares students for allied health careers. The four following degree options consist of a block of general education requirements and selected allied health professional curriculum credits. The Histotechnology and Sleep Technology options are offered through a partnership with Baptist Health College Little Rock. The Radiography option is offered through a partnership with CHI St. Vincent Infirmary School of Radiologic Technology. Students will be admitted into the professional core through specific requirements of the admission/selection criteria of the affiliated school.

As part of the School of Math, Science, and Allied Health’s admissions and acceptance process, applicants are required to successfully pass a drug screen prior to entry into the following AHHS programs: Occupational Therapy Assistant, Radiography, Respiratory Therapy, and Licensed Practical Nursing.

In addition, students enrolled in these programs and the Dental Assisting program will be subject to random drug tests during the academic year. Persons testing positive or who refuse testing will be denied entry into the program or dismissed from the program if currently enrolled.

Option: Radiography

Students enrolled in this program of study obtain 19 credit hours of general education courses listed below. If selected for the professional program at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary School of Radiologic Technology, students then complete the 60 credit hours of RADG courses. Enrollment in Radiography courses is limited. Students are selected through a formal acceptance process. Students must be 18 years old, with a high school diploma or GED, and have completed all required prerequisite courses in order to start the Radiography program. This program is offered as part of a consortium agreement with CHI St. Vincent Health System School of Radiologic Technology. This program of study includes required summer courses and special program fees beyond current tuition and college fees.

CHI St. Vincent Health System School of Radiologic Technology is accredited by the Joint Review Committee for Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), which is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) as an accrediting agency. In addition to satisfying the Institutional Learning Outcomes, program graduates are expected to successfully address the following program learning outcomes:

  1. The program will produce graduates that are clinically competent and able to adapt to unique clinical situations in all entry-level clinical procedures.
  2. The program will produce graduates that demonstrate critical thinking addressing cognitive complex issues using processes of problem and resources identification, prioritizing alternative and recognizing conditionality, subsequently choosing a response.
  3. The program will produce graduates that demonstrate a desire to seek further professional growth, display a professional image and attitude.
  4. The program will educate students to be effective communicators.
  5. Provide the community and St. Vincent Health System with qualified radiographers.

Program standards for Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)

  1. Integrity: The program demonstrates integrity in the following: Representations to communities of interest and public, pursuit of fair and equitable academic practices, and treatment of, and respect for, students, faculty, and staff.
  2. Resources: The program has sufficient resources to support the quality and effectiveness of the educational process.
  3. Curriculum and Academic Practices: The program’s curriculum and academic practices prepare students for professional practice.
  4. Health and Safety: The program’s policies and procedures promote the health, safety, and optimal use of radiation for students, patients, and the general public.
  5. Assessment: The program develops and implements a system of planning and evaluation of student learning and program effectiveness outcomes in support of its mission.
  6. Institutional/Programmatic Data: The program complies with JRCERT policies, procedures, and STANDARDS to achieve and maintain specialized accreditation.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply for admission to the certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Upon passing the registry examination, the graduate is certified as a Registered Technologist, Radiographer R.T., (R) ARRT and is eligible to apply for active membership in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. 

A degree in Radiology may also lead to occupations in Magnetic Resonance Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Sonography, and Radiation Therapy.

Beginning salary for Radiologic Technologists is $58,120 year.
