Welding Technology, TC

This program, designed according to the guidelines established by the American Welding Society, includes instruction in different welding processes, joint design and various metallurgical aspects of metal composition. The Certificate of Proficiency in Welding Technology allows students to complete certification requirements in the 3G (vertical) position. A metal-testing laboratory is available for welder certification in destructive and nondestructive testing through radiography.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply safe work practices in a manner compatible with OSHA requirements and welding industry standards.
  2. Correctly use and apply welding terminology regarding welding equipment components, welds, and welding processes.
  3. Demonstrate safe application of the following types of welding and cutting to ferrous, alloy and non-ferrous metals that meets or exceeds industry standards for the following: 3G Vertical SMAW [WLD 1110 & WLD 1204 ]; 3G & 4G Structural Steel SMAW [WLD 2110]; 3G FCAW [WLD 1704  & WLD 2110]; and 2F Fillet Weld FCAW to 1/16th” wire [WLD 1704  & WLD 2110].
  4. Interpret weld symbols and blueprints for the purpose of performing basic welding techniques.
  5. Demonstrate Welding Procedures Specifications (WPS): welding process, amperage, filler metal specs, base metal specs, pre-heat temperatures, and position; bend and x-ray test AWS Standard
  6. Accurately measure to 1/16” using the following tools: tape measure ruler, square, level, and various weld gauges.
  7. Identify basic industry methods used to test welds.
